#MONSTERWEEK :: Horror Movie Playlist

Music is an essential component to a good horror film. From Bernard Herrmann's iconic strings in Psycho to Halloween's simple yet frightening piano theme, it is safe to say that a lot of the reason why horror movies scare us so much is the music. But other than the musical scores, there is a special place in our hearts for songs and performers whose music gets played in, performed in, or created for a horror film. Here are our top five that you have to add to your Halloween playlist (if they're not already there)!

1. "Bela Lugosi's Dead" by Bauhaus
     as performed in the opening credits of the 1983 vampire film "The Hunger"

2. "Surfin' Dead" by The Cramps
     featured in the 1985 zombie film "The Return of the Living Dead"

3. "Red Right Hand" by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
     played in the 1996 slasher film "Scream" by Wes Craven

4. "Don't Fear the Reaper" by Blue Oyster Cult
      featured in the 1987 John Carpenter classic "Halloween"

5. "Suspiria" by Goblin
     composed for the 1977 horror film by Dario Argento by the same name
