French Dip for #SandwichSaturday on  TOO INTO IT

Two Los Angeles restaurants claim to be the first to create the French Dip (or "beef dip") sandwich, Cole's Pacific Electric Buffet and Philippe the Original, both established in 1908.

Variations of it's creation involve accidentally spilling meat drippings on a customer's sandwich, and a waiter purposely tossing a bread in meat juices after someone complained that it was stale.

My version was made with thick slices of juicy roast beef on french bread "au jus" made with beef broth, red wine vinegar, and peppercorns. Simply yet hearty and flavorful.
